Walmart vs. Aldi Challenge: How I Saved Big in Las Vegas

This week, I took on a fun, eye-opening challenge: Walmart vs. Aldi. While Aldi is a longtime secret for many Chicago natives, it's brand new to Las Vegas—and I couldn't be more excited! For those of us who shop smart, meal prep, and buy in bulk, this store just changed the game in Nevada.

The Challenge:
I took my regular Walmart shopping list and duplicated it at the new Aldi. The results?
Same basket, plus $20 extra to spend. No coupons. No gimmicks. Just better prices.

Let’s get into how I shop—and why this challenge made such a difference.

How I Grocery Shop (Budget Strategy)
I shop twice a month:
Main Shop: The 1st of every month
Supplemental Shop: Around the 15th

This keeps me stocked without overspending. I focus on:

1. Primary Items: meats, vegetables, fruits

2. Storage Essentials: bulk buys, freezables

3. Fill-Ins: snacks, sauces, breads, drinks, and pantry basics

My priority is always value, freshness, and how long items will last.

Why Aldi Wins for Me

Smaller store, faster trips

High-quality private label brands

Bulk savings without warehouse membership fees

Fresh produce and affordable meats

Perfect for meal preppers & big families
Aldi lets me stretch my budget without sacrificing quality. And in Vegas, where cost of living fluctuates, this is the kind of secret we all need.

Your Turn!
Take the challenge yourself. Grab your regular grocery list, and see what you can save by switching just one of your monthly shops to Aldi. You might just surprise yourself.

If you’re local to Vegas and haven’t checked out the new Aldi yet—go this weekend. And let me know what your favorite finds are!
