1. Don’t sit in your car distracted, especially at night. Get in, lock the doors, and move.
2. Don’t walk around staring at your phone or wearing both earbuds. Stay aware of who and what is around you.
3. Don’t flash cash, jewelry, designer bags, or expensive electronics in public.
4. Don’t leave your car running unattended, even “just for a second.”
5. Don’t leave bags, purses, guns, laptops, or valuables visible inside your vehicle.
6. Don’t argue with strangers over small things like traffic, parking, staring, or disrespect. Walking away can save a life.
7. Don’t follow somebody or chase a stolen vehicle/property yourself. Call police and protect yourself first.
8. Don’t post your exact location in real time when you’re alone, leaving home, carrying money, or attending an event.
9. Don’t ignore your instincts. If a person, vehicle, parking lot, gas station, or situation feels wrong, leave.
10. Don’t assume “it can’t happen over here.” Crime can happen anywhere. Stay alert without living scared.
“Chicago, being aware ain’t being scared. Make it home.”
