Teddy Riley grew up with six people sharing one apartment and fighting over a single bathroom. He started working at 14 and bought his first car himself. So when he made it, he made sure his kids would never go without, and he later admitted that was a mistake. "In hindsight, I see that it was a mistake to give them everything they wanted so that they could have the childhood I never had," he said in a December 2009 statement to TMZ.
The statement came after his then 18-year-old daughter filed a restraining order alleging he had assaulted her and her sister, which Riley denied. He said his kids had developed "an inflated sense of entitlement" and noted that they had never had to share a bathroom, let alone a bedroom.
