HOME REMEDIES WORK BEST

Home Remedies Work Best

I can’t fully explain it but I’ll try.

Since COVID, my body just doesn’t respond the same anymore. My immune system feels like it’s on high alert all the time. A simple cough, a sneeze, or anything floating through the air can set me off. It’s like my body shuts down instead of fighting back.

Recently, I was seen for high blood pressure. Now add menopause into the mix along with missed hormone treatments and you’ve got a perfect storm. And that’s not even touching the stress I’ve been dealing with. It’s a lot. Some days, it feels like my body is carrying everything all at once.

What really doesn’t make sense? It’s over 90 degrees here in Vegas… and somehow, I’m sick. Again. I don’t even know with what anymore.

At first, I did what most people do I reached for medicine. Syrup, to be exact. But after a day of dosing myself, I felt worse in a different way. Twisted, off balance, not like myself. I even caught myself half asleep, humming “sippin’ on some syrup.” That was my moment. I knew I had to stop.

So I put the bottle down.

Instead, I went back to what I know.

I grabbed lemon, garlic, cloves, honey, ginger, and a peppermint tea bag and I got to simmering. No measurements, no overthinking just instinct and tradition. That same night, I made homemade chicken and rice soup. Simple, warm, healing.

And something shifted.

It reminded me that sometimes, the things we’ve always known the remedies passed down, the natural ingredients, the slow process of making something from scratch work better than anything you can grab off a shelf.

Even a character like Agnes made me pause and reconsider my relationship with herbal remedies. Funny how inspiration shows up, right? One day this week, I plan to go out and collect fresh herbs myself. Get closer to the source. Reconnect.

I’m also learning my body has preferences now. Air conditioners? They make me congested and mess with my breathing. A fan might be the better investment for me. It’s about listening really listening to what my body is saying.

And let me say this clearly: just because I know people with money, or people in high places, does not make me any less human. Their resources are not mine. My reality is mine. And in this season, every small tip, every natural solution, every bit of self-awareness matters.

Right now, I’ll choose a home remedy over a bottle any day.

This isn’t about rejecting modern medicine it’s about balance. It’s about knowing when to return to what grounds you, what heals you gently, what aligns with your body instead of overwhelming it.

This week, I’m focusing on building my herb collection.

Because healing, for me, is becoming personal again.
